Maruti Pictures, the producers of comedy 'Daddy Cool', has dismissed rumors that the film is a copy of 2007 Hollywood film 'Death at a Funeral'. The news came after rumor mills were abuzz that the Hindi movie is a copy of the Hollywood venture - in the name of inspiration.

In a statement, the producers - Ashok Thakeria and Indra Kumar - say, "This is to clarify reports appearing in certain sections of the press about the upcoming Hindi film 'Daddy Cool' being a lift from the English film 'Death At A Funeral'.

They claim that 'Daddy Cool' has duly obtained permission from the producers of the English film to produce and release the film across the world... Big Pictures is releasing the film only after ascertaining the facts. K Murli Mohan Rao has directed 'Daddy Cool' starring Suniel Shetty, Aftab Shivdasani, Javed Jaffrey, Aarti Chhabria, Ashish Chowdhry, Tulip Joshi, Kim Sharma, Sophie Choudry, Rajpal Yadav, Chunky Pandey and Prem Chopra.

Good son Steven Lazarus (Suniel Shetty), an aspiring writer tries to give his father a decent funeral by delivering a eulogy, which includes a description of the rivers of Goa. Having flown in first class, his younger brother Brian (Ashish Chowdhry) is suave, successful and a much admired writer from Mumbai.

He is not ready to share responsibility for his mother, saying he barely has money to support himself and his dogs. The estate agent Pinto (Vijay Patkar) tries to close a house deal for Nancy (Aarti Chabria), Steven's wife who is trying to get away from her mother-in-law Mrs. Lazarus (Suhasini Mulay), who though just bereaved, lives up to her title admirably.

A prospective groom Michael (Aftab Shivdasani) to a cousin, Maria (Tulip Joshi), is nervous about meeting his father-in-law to be (Naseer Abdullah) and comes in completely spaced out because of a hallucinogenic drug given to him out of Maria's junkie brother Harry's (Chunky Pandey) bottle of Relaxo.

A knife-wielding suspicious Jenny (Kim Sharma) finds her husband Carlos (Javed Jaffrey) pleading forgiveness from the hot model Ayesha (Sophie Chowdhry). While the model, told to bestow her favors on a man in a black suit, in order to feature in an ad film, finds herself in a room full of potential employers.

A repulsive spit on hands and flick back hair, Roadside Romeo kind of aspiring boyfriend, Jim (Vrajesh Hirjee) thinks that even a funeral is an opportunity to impress Maria. A doddering old Uncle Murphy (Prem Chopra) in a wheelchair believes in practicing "rapchick" to get the girls. And then enters a blackmailer Andrew (Rajpal Yadav) who has a scandalous secret about the deceased Douglas 'Daddy Cool' Lazarus (Sharat Saxena).

Critically analyzing the movie we find that generally it's difficult to adapt each English film for the Indian screen. We are not commenting on their adaptation or remake without necessary permission as the producers have already claimed it. We strongly feel that one doesn't appreciate a Hindi version if he or she has already watched the English one.

We wonder if this Hindi version could be termed a movie. Anyway, 'Daddy Cool' doesn't look as cool as the title claims. Instead of making you laugh during the theater it makes one sad. Neither is there a story to watch nor any enjoyable scene. Maybe it's because the movie concentrates on one location.

Can anyone appreciate the repeat of one location throughout the duration of the movie? It becomes monotonous for a viewer to suffer close to two hours in watching the same location. Though the movie aims at being a comedy creating a laugh riot, it falls far short of a smile. The dialogues look like crude jokes instead of providing humor to the audience.

The movie seems to have been made in a hurry just for the sake of doing so. How else one dare show one's cast shabbily dressed whereas the audience looks forward to a movie for setting a trend in fashion. There is nothing of that sort. We would not like making mentions of some senior artists in the movie wandering about in hardly watchable garments.

Yes, we mean undergarments. We pity the actors who obliged the director by following his instruction, if any. It won't be out of place to mention that Indra Kumar who directed a comedy like 'Dhamaal' not in the distant past couldn't make its sequel and fell a prey to 'Daddy Cool'.

Yes, we are fully aware that he had to abandon the idea of second 'Dhamaal' as he failed to get dates from Sanjay Dutt , and fell a prey to a director- writer K. Murli Mohan Rao's script and agreed to make a film on this. Indra Kumar was in a great hurry to make a film and signed immediately Suniel Shetty, Aftaab Shivdasani, Prem Chopra and Spphia Chowdhary.

Indra completed the movie within four months. Less said better for the movie as a whole. The director's choice of a good cast has gone waste. Besides delivering unheard of dialogues, the movie has the temerity of asking some actors to remove their underclothes so they can relieve themselves in a toilet! Luckily, movie watchers have a good number of movies to choose. Six movies are released this Friday.
